Bowling Basin is a popular location on the lowland canal network with a wonderful outlook over the Clyde Estuary. It encompasses a wide range of interests including historic listed structures, the western entrance into the Forth & Clyde Canal, National Cycle Route 7, a natural woodland area and its very own beach.
But Bowling Basin can be so much more. Potential exists to transform the area into a destination worthy of the strategic position that it occupies within the canal network. Any change needs to be sensitively managed and Scottish Canals are committed to working with the local community and stakeholder groups to achieve an outcome for this and future generations that everyone can be proud of.

The charrette involved a series of design workshops with local stakeholders and the community which were held in the Spring of 2014 to come up with a plan and vision for Bowling Basin. Many of the ideas discussed at the charrette have influenced or been included in the emerging Masterplan for Bowling Basin which will be submitted for planning in due course.’
